QB Tyler Van Dyke heading to SMU for sixth season

Former Miami and Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has decided to continue his football career at SMU.
Van Dyke started for the Hurricanes from 2021-23 before transferring to Wisconsin. But during his third game with the Badgers last season, Van Dyke sustained a season-ending right knee injury against Alabama.
Van Dyke recently entered the transfer portal and he chose the Mustangs despite the presence of returning starter Brandon Jennings, who guided SMU to a College Football Playoff appearance this season.
However, Mustangs coach Rhett Lashlee was the offensive coordinator at Miami in 2020-21. Van Dyke redshirted in 2020 and then was Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year in 2021 when he passed for 2,931 yards and 25 touchdowns against six interceptions.
In three-plus seasons at Miami, Van Dyke threw for 7,469 yards and 54 touchdowns while being intercepted 23 times.
This season, Van Dyke passed for 422 yards and one touchdown without being intercepted in 68 pass attempts.
Preston Stone, SMU's backup in 2024, recently transferred to Northwestern.
